Just a few short weeks ago, I had one of the best days of my career all thanks to a workshop called “Save the Date”. This workshop was a collaborative idea between myself and Travis from Calyx Floral Design that was geared towards brides-to-be. We wanted to create an experience for them that would make the whole wedding planning process a breeze. To help us out, we enlisted some of Central Alberta’s best wedding professionals in order to create a day like no other. We had speakers giving pro advice on wedding decor, photography (by yours truly), budgeting, wedding dresses, hairstyling, marriage commissioners, floral preservation, and so much more.

Two of the high points of the day were our make-n-takes. We had Carol from Creative Cakes by Carol do a cupcake decorating class and Travis helped all the ladies make floral crowns! So epic!! We couldn’t have made it through the day without Dennis from Juiced Audio… his awesome tunes and great emceeing (is that even a word??? lol) kept the day rolling so smoothly. Let’s not forget how much fun it was to take home photos from the photo booth provided by Twitchybooth. All the attendees flocked to it… especially after they made their beautiful flower crowns!

And a huge thank you to Canyon Ski Resort for allowing us to use their venue which we made SO PRETTY using rentals from both Special Event Rentals and Orange Trunk Vintage Rentals.

To give you a better idea of how the day went down, enjoy the photos. Also, we are secretly (not so secretly) hoping to do this again soon. If you think this is something you and your bridesmaids, friends, or moms would like to do… please let us know! We would love to see you at our next event.

I knew from the minute I met with Ashley and Jeff that their wedding was going to be one to remember. And I was totally right! We laughed, danced and had the most wonderful time at the wedding. It was as if it was one of my own friends getting married!

The wedding took place last fall, and just like the rest of the summer, rain was in the forecast.  Ashley knew exactly where she wanted her photos to take place (she had seen a previous wedding I did there and said that HAD to be our spot). And even though I wanted to stay at a closer location (I was stressing out a bit about getting rained on!), we drove the 25 minutes to Lacombe to take her photos. Well, needless to say, she was right! We couldn’t have chosen a better location for her formal photos. The warm fall colors blended perfectly with the red roses in the bouquets from Calyx Floral Design.  Even the damp concrete mimicked the black in the girls dresses and guys suits.  It was absolutely perfect. We worked quickly, and just as I said “let’s wrap it up” the rain came POURING down. BEST.TIMING.EVER!!!!

Congrats Ashley and Jeff! You guys were so awesome and I am so happy to have met you!

Today, you are in for a treat. I have asked some of my past brides to give you a little piece of advise that they have learned from their weddings! YAY! What better way to get tidbits of information, than from someone who has just been in your shoes not that long ago.

From Ceanna:

“Don’t fret. Don’t stress. Enjoy the ride of the day! Wake up knowing there might be kinks but they aren’t going to change the outcome of you being MARRIED at the end of the day! No one else knows your exact plans, so no one will know if one thing is missing! Embrace it, your wedding day only happens ONCE!”2017-03-28_0019 2017-03-28_0008 2017-03-28_0014

From Michelle:

“The best advise I could give is to really investigate costs before making a budget and booking vendors. I found we made a budget and allocated not enough money towards the things we considered important and then had overspent money on things that we could have cut back on. It’s hard to know what to expect when you have never planned a wedding but putting in the time to research will definitely pay off in the end. My other best advise would be to hire Lindsay as we couldn’t be more happy with our photos!”

From Kaylah:

“Enjoy the scenery! Mountain backdrops for engagement and wedding photos are timeless… Absolutely stunning! Use the architecture and decor in the venue to your advantage. Less is more for decorating.

Lots of local restaurants can be used as venues for the ceremony and reception. Call around to your favourite mountain restaurant… you may be surprised what they can offer.

Many makeup artists (and hairstylists) in the Canmore/Banff area are mobile. Book early for a consultation.

From Kaitlin:

“Just remember that at the end of the day, after the dinner is eaten, the speeches are given, the cake is cut, the bouquet is tossed… you will be married to the love of your life. So simply focus on the marriage rather than the wedding and things will be a lot less stressful.”
2017-03-28_0012 2017-03-28_0020 2017-03-28_0009
From Dana:
“To the bride on her wedding day. Remember this is one day in your life; a snapshot in time. Your heart has lead you here, don’t let your brain drive you crazy planning the day. “
2017-03-28_0006 2017-03-28_0004 2017-03-28_0016
From Denise:
“Organization is key! I kept a notebook with dividers and had everything in it from the guest list to expenses. Each time I met with a vendor (caterer, officiant etc) I brought my notebook along and had everything at my fingertips and could reference easily what I had discussed with other vendors. Also doing a few tasks at a time was much more manageable than trying to do a whole bunch all at once! Oh and hire Lindsay as your photographer (but that ones a no brainer!)”

WOW! I just love hearing what every bride takes away from their wedding. It really sounds like the overall theme is to relax, don’t stress and remember that you are marrying the love of your life! Thank you to all my brides that participated in this fun blog post. I know each of them would love it if you could leave a comment letting them know how great they did!

What an exciting event Mistletoe Magic was! I loved seeing all the girls dressed up with their special loved one, it totally melted my heart.

If you participated in the photo portion of the evening, you can find the LINK TO YOUR IMAGES HERE. Feel free to download them and keep them as a special memory from that night 🙂 Enjoy!

On a very hot summer day, Austin and Ceanna said their “I Do’s” in a wedding to be envious of.

Ceanna, an ER nurse and Austin, a firemedic, came to me earlier this year to book their wedding. They had settled on a Monday, which worked absolutely perfectly for me due to the fact that all my Saturdays were booked. They knew that getting married on a weekday would allow them the freedom to choose all their preferred vendors to make their day perfect. And perfect is exactly what it was!

The morning started at Ceanna’s parents house, who own a gorgeous saskatoon berry farm, and that’s where Austin saw his bride for the first time. We then travelled to Lacombe to the Big Red Barn for the ceremony and reception. It looked like a page out of pinterest, except it was kept true to the who the bride and groom were. Nearly all the decor was handmade by them in the months leading up to the big day, and all their hard work paid off with guests being awed by how beautiful it was. From the floral antlers, to the handmade mr. & mrs. bibs, not a detail was spared.

Congrats Austin and Ceanna on tying the knot in one of the most beautiful weddings ever!

This wedding was magazine perfect. You would have had no idea that mother nature opened up the flood gates just a few days earlier and delivered some of the most intense hail we have ever had. Dani’s parents had gone through so much work to make their land perfect for the wedding, and they found themselves in a panic to put it all back together in record time. And if you ask me, they did an OUTSTANDING job!

I was totally in awe of this backyard wedding where every detail was executed to perfection. Any brides looking to do an outdoor ceremony and tent reception… this is how you do it! Simply stunning!

Looking back on last years weddings, this one really stood out to me. It was so elegantly done and was the perfect mix of vintage and romantic. I thought the three little ring bearers were absolute show stoppers in there shorts and suspender outfits. TOO CUTE!! I also couldn’t help but fall in love with Jordyn’s lace gown, it was like it was meant just for her!! All in all, this wedding had me smiling all day long because it was the perfect reflection of the love these two have for each other.

In the spirit of getting my blog updated, I bring to you another GORGEOUS wedding from last summer. The colors of this wedding were put together so beautifully and meshed perfectly with the overcast sky that day. We kept thinking we would be rained on at any moment, but luckily for us, we felt the first rain drop just as I said the words “I think we’ve got all the shots we need!”. Perfect timing!

Enjoy this beautiful wedding today!

I was introduced to Kenneth and Ashley over a warm cup of coffee when they shared with me all the details of their upcoming wedding. After sipping java, laughing and chatting about life, wedding plans, and the future… it was evident I HAD to shoot their wedding because they were just plain AWESOME people!

The whole day went off wonderfully and I know that I became one of Ashley’s unofficial sisters that day! lol.

There are not enough people like Kenneth and Ashley who’s love is completely evident for everyone to see. Congrats you two! I am so happy for you and can’t wait to see what your future holds.

As the busy summer comes to a close, I will be getting a bit of time to catch up on the blog. I have had so many gorgeous weddings this year and I can’t wait to share them all!!!

Going all the way back to May, this was the first wedding of the season. Nathan and Amanda had quickly become people who I could call friends, and I was so excited to spend their special day with them. It was a day filled with love and laughter as we took to the Red Deer River to capture our shots. I think the laughter part came in when a groomsman had split his pants! Seriously, the whole seam was taken out! But, it was quickly fixed and we moved on to an extremely warm and heratfelt reception.

I can’t begin to explain how lucky I feel to have made these clients into my friends! I will always cherish this wedding and can’t wait to see what their future has in store.
